The days calculator counts how many days there are between two dates, and adds days to a date or takes them away. The answer appears in days, weeks, months and years, with the day of the week. If you need it, only working days from Monday to Friday are counted.
Counting the days between two dates
Enter a start date and an end date and the calculator counts the days from one to the other. Whether the first day counts depends on what you need: for a deadline you usually start counting the day after, for the length of a holiday you count the day you arrive. The calculator shows both numbers so you can pick the right one.
Working days only
With the working days option, Saturdays and Sundays are skipped. Bank holidays are not taken off, because they differ between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and change from year to year. For notice periods, leave requests and delivery times, counting Monday to Friday is usually enough.
Example: how many days until Christmas Eve
From 1 October 2026 to 24 December 2026 is 84 days, or 85 counting the first. That is exactly 12 weeks, or 2 months and 23 days. Counting working days only leaves 60.
The second mode works the other way round. A letter dated Monday 5 October 2026 gives you 14 days to reply: the calculator adds the days and shows Monday 19 October 2026. How a particular deadline is counted depends on its own rules. The calculator only counts days. To add up the hours worked on those days, use the hours calculator.
